As kids, most of us thought it would be cool growing up and moving away from home. For these small business owners, that’s as true now as it was back then!
Jacob and Abigail Blada’s Springfield, Wisconsin home-based business, Poppy Cakes, was already quite successful, as they had been selling their cakes, cupcakes, brownies and other freshly-baked goods to local customers for over three years. But they knew that in order to achieve their longer-term goals, relocation to a high-visibility storefront in a larger community was critical.
According to Jacob, “Abigail and I were referred to First Internet Bank by the Vice President of our local bank. The entire experience of working with the First Internet Bank Small Business Administration (SBA) team and our Business Development Officer Ben Woodward was very good. He responded to our emails and calls promptly, and answered every question we had along the way.”
As a result of their successful SBA 7(a) loan process, the Bladas were able to find their ideal storefront location and kitchen for Poppy Cakes in nearby Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The move has enabled them to grow their business well beyond the limitations of their home-based efforts.
“The best part of working with First Internet Bank was how easy it was to go through the process,” Jacob noted. “I would absolutely recommend them to other small businesses, because they worked closely with us to grow and make the most out of our business.”
Building a successful bakery business at home is excellent. Being able to take it to the next level by working with a team that gets the funding you need so you can move to larger retail space? Even sweeter!
