The year was 1999 and our founder David Becker had grown tired of banks holding him back — restrictive hours, lifeless branches, pens on chains, and heads in the sand. However, as you might naturally expect from an entrepreneur, he had an idea… to create a bank without branches. One that existed solely on the internet and would change red tape into blue sky, brick walls into transparency and bankers hours into your hours.
Some called the notion crazy; we called it First Internet Bank — the first state-chartered, FDIC-insured institution to operate entirely online.
